When the Old Story Ends: Navigating the In - Between Space of Change

There are seasons in life when something begins to shift, even before you can clearly name what it is.

You may still be moving through your days in the same way, showing up in familiar roles, keeping up with responsibilities, and doing what has always made sense. From the outside, very little may appear to have changed.

And yet, there is a quiet awareness underneath it all that something no longer feels quite the same.

The direction that once felt clear may begin to feel less certain. The goals that once motivated you may no longer carry the same meaning. Even the way you relate to yourself and others can start to feel slightly out of alignment, as though you are outgrowing something that used to fit.

This is not always dramatic or obvious.

More often, it shows up in subtle ways, in moments of hesitation, in a sense of restlessness, or in the quiet thought that there may be more than what you are currently experiencing.

These are often the early signs that an old story is beginning to come to an end.

Not because anything has gone wrong, but because something within you is beginning to change.

The In-Between Is Not a Mistake

What comes next does not always arrive right away.

There is often a space in between, where the old way no longer fits, but the new way has not yet fully taken shape.

This space can feel uncomfortable because it does not offer clear direction or immediate answers. You may find yourself questioning where you are, wondering what you are supposed to do next, or feeling like you should have more clarity than you do.

It can be tempting to move quickly through this phase, to make a decision, choose a direction, or return to something familiar just to regain a sense of certainty.

But this in-between space is not something to rush through.

It is part of the process of change.

Growth does not always move forward in a straight line. Sometimes it asks you to pause in uncertainty, not as a delay, but as a way of allowing something more aligned to begin forming.

When Something Deeper Is Asking for Attention

For many women, this space is not only about uncertainty. It is also where deeper patterns begin to come into view.

You may start to notice that certain reactions, choices, or relationship dynamics continue to repeat, even when you have already spent time reflecting on them or trying to approach them differently.

There can be a sense of knowing what you would like to change, paired with a difficulty in actually doing so.

At a certain point, insight on its own can begin to feel incomplete.

This is often where a different kind of awareness begins to open, one that is less focused on figuring things out from the surface and more interested in understanding what is happening underneath.

Rather than something to solve immediately, this can become an invitation to slow down and begin relating to yourself in a more honest and attentive way.

Staying With What Is Unfolding

Remaining in this space does not mean that you are stuck.

It means that you are in a phase where something is still unfolding.

Instead of trying to force clarity, it can be helpful to begin by noticing what no longer feels sustainable, where your energy naturally pulls away, and what continues to return to your awareness even when you try to set it aside.

These signals may not yet form a clear path, but they begin to point toward what is changing.

Allowing this process to unfold gradually can feel unfamiliar, especially if you are used to moving quickly or having a clear sense of direction.

But there is a different kind of movement that happens here, one that is quieter, more grounded, and more aligned with who you are becoming.

A Place to Explore What Is Emerging

For some, staying with this process becomes easier when there is a space that supports reflection without pressure.

Not a space that asks you to have answers, but one that allows you to be with your experience as it is, and to begin noticing what may be asking for your attention in a more intentional way.

If you find yourself in this in-between space and feel the pull to explore it more deeply, there are a few opportunities this month that are designed to support exactly that kind of process.

Each one offers a slightly different way of working with what is unfolding, whether through quiet reflection, guided exploration, or shared conversation. (see the upcoming events below)

Closing Reflection

If you find yourself in this space, it may help to remember that you are not behind and you are not lost.

You are in a moment where something is shifting, even if it is not yet fully visible.

And sometimes, the most meaningful step is not to rush toward what is next, but to stay present long enough to understand what is beginning to emerge.

Journal Questions:

  • What in your life is beginning to feel out of alignment, even if you cannot yet name why?

  • What keeps returning to your awareness, the thought, feeling, or longing that will not let itself be set aside?

  • If this in-between space is not something to fix or rush through, what might it be asking you to stay with a little longer?

📍 The Durango Collective

If you have found yourself repeating the same patterns, even after trying to understand or work through them, this workshop offers a way to begin exploring what may be beneath those experiences.

This is a space for women to slow down and work more directly with the parts of themselves that shape reactions, choices, and relationship patterns, often outside of conscious awareness.

During this workshop, you will be guided through a process that helps you notice patterns more clearly, understand what may be driving them, and begin relating to those parts of yourself with more awareness and intention.

Participants often leave with a stronger sense of clarity around their patterns, along with practical ways to work with them in everyday life rather than feeling driven by them.

This kind of work can support you in moving from reacting in familiar ways to responding from a place that feels more grounded and aligned.
